90 HFMD outbreaks increased in Shenzhen
The epidemic monitoring data shows that the outbreak of the hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) is earlier than that in the former years, according to Shenzhen Disease Control Center. When coming into March, the cases of HFMD are obviously increased comparing to that in January and February. The latest weekly report of the outbreak is over 90 cases, which is 45% higher than the last week and the collectively outbreak of the disease is also increased comparing to the same period of last year.
The hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) is a common ailment and frequently encountered disease that are popular during the period of late spring and early summer, which usually has the outbreak peak between May and July. With the disease outbreak peak drawing near, the cases outbreak will rise recently. The experts forecasts that the epidemic situation in Shenzhen in a few months in the future may further worsen.
By far, most of the HFMD cases in Shenzhen are slight ones while only one serious case is now being actively treated and the illness is turning better. The experts emphasizes that we should enhance the early discovery and treatment of the HFMD of children.
The HFMD children, especially under the age of three, will have symptoms of persistent febrile period, bad spiritual state, vomiting, weak limbs etc. within five days and may develop into a serious case in a short period. Since May in 2008, Shenzhen Health Bureau has designated several hospitals as the hospitals to collectively receive and treat the hand-foot-mouth disease, of which the Municipal Children’s Hospital is responsible for the medical treatment and care of serious cases.
