Shenzhen Children’s Palace may start second-stage construction

Shenzhen Children’s Palace earlier ushered in the big day of the fifth anniversary for opening up. Liang Yi, director of the Children’s Palace said the construction of the second stage project of the Palace is now in the works for relieving the problem of lacking of fields.

The municipal Children’s Palace was open to the public on June 1st, 2004. Due to the shortage of activity places for children in Shenzhen, Shenzhen Children’s Palace, after completed and opened up, quickly became the main activity places for children and many parents brought their children here, and it was also a place that different shows, training and exchange activities were held. Liang Yi said that the Palace provided services for about 3 million person-time in one year and the accumulated number during the five years exceeded 15 million person-time.

Popularity of the Palace also discloses that the site scale of the Children’s Palace is insufficient. There are only a few large activity places in the whole city for the hundreds of thousands of children, such as the municipal Children’s Palace and the Shenzhen Municipal Youth Center. Therefore, the Children’s Palace faces a great pressure. Liang said Shenzhen Commission of Communist Youth League is now planning the second stage project of the Children’s Palace.

Since a long time, many parents have doubted the charging issue of parts of the project. It’s said that, by now, most of the project, except for the movie and some training, are freely open to the public. Liang said, ”Children’s Palace has always insists in commonweal, but the commonweal does not equal to the free of charge. Actually, Children’s Palace’s one third of the operating expenses is from the charge items.” He also said, “Many of the equipments are facing update, but lacking of capital makes it hard to put on the agenda.”
