Partial Solar Eclipse in Shenzhen

On July 22th, the longest total solar eclipse in 500 years occurred as expected. Although Shenzhen was lack of opportunity to have the total solar eclipse, the astronomy fans’ passions were not affected by that. Tens of thousands of people gathered just for enjoying this feast.

At about 8:00 am, when journalist came to the Municipal Weather Bureau located in Zhuzilin, Futiain district, the experts of the Municipal Climate Observatory of China had set up two telescopes and relevant persons were adjusting the equipments, waiting for the appearance of the partial solar eclipse.

At 8:14 am, the eyes attracting “beginning of eclipse” showed up that the northeast edge of the sun was obscured by a small black shadow and the shadow gradually expanded.

At 9:05 am, the sun was bitten of a big part, changing into a big dumpling.

At 9:25, three quarter of the sun was obscured by the shadow of the moon, just like a new moon high above. The mid totality appeared at this time, which is the biggest partial solar eclipse that people could see in Shenzhen in this century. After the mid totality, the sun slowly recovered.

At 10:45, the feast of solar eclipse ended.

It’s said that the people who are interested in astronomy phenomenon could also see the annular solar eclipse phenomenon after three years on May 12, 2012 between 5:00 am and 7:00 am.
