Shenzhen’s rainstorm crippled the city traffic

The sudden rainstorm on July 25th at about 7:00 am submerged a section of road of nearly 100 meters at the crossing of Longhua Longda Highway and Renmin Road in Shenzhen due to the low-lying area and poor drainage system, and had caused several flameouts of engines of the cars on the road. The water logging had caused 7 hours’traffic jam on Longda Highway and the line of the vehicles were nearly 5 kilometers long.

It’s reported that a 100 meters long road was totally flooded by the yellow water and the deepest place could be one meter. Some drivers of small cars used to try to drive through, but were soon trapped in the center of the water due to the flameout of the engines.

Journalist saw that the road that was submerged by the water was low-lying and there were constructions in process on the two sides. Several workers walking out of the construction sites were collecting tools in the waist deep water. One worker told that the drainage system around had gone wrong and the water would be gathered every time it rained.

With the time went on, the water had no sign of receding. One hour later, the vehicles on Longda Road had formed a long queue of nearly 5 kilometers and policemen had come out for keeping order the road.

At about 10:00 am, the water gradually went out and the traffic police immediately began to direct the vehicles to pass through quickly. The water did not recede until yesterday afternoon.
