Shenzhen homemade plane takes its maiden flight

A Shenzhen man has flown a homemade plane to a height of 400 meters and landed safely after 25 minutes.

Yang Weimin, a photographer living in Shenzhen, spend two and a half years making an aircraft in the living room of his house and now he has been successful with the maiden flight of his plane.

Yang equipped the head and wings of the aircraft with cameras which had recorded the whole exciting flying process.

After the successful maiden flight, Yang Weimin said he would continue to fly with his plane in the sky. Dave Trump, boss of American JDT mini-Max Ultralight Aircraft Company, came to Shenzhen specially for watching Yang’s maiden flight. “This is the most beautiful mini-Max aircraft that I have ever seen,” he commented.

Starting from a pile of raw materials, Yang spend two and a half years making by himself most of the components except the engine, airscrew, wheels and the instruments which only cost him less than 80 thousand Yuan. This homemade plane is a ultralight aircraft made according to the blueprint and the designer is Mr. Wayne Ison, a famous mini-Max ultralight aircraft designer in America.

Yang Weimin said he had been an avid model plane enthusiast since he was a child. Because China did not require pilots of ultralight planes to be licensed, Yang said ultralight planes could help ordinary people realize their dream of flying.
