41 H1N1 flu cases increased after school opened in Shenzhen

From September 1 to September 4 after school opened, Shenzhen reported 8 clusters of school outbreak with accumulative victims of 41. At the end of last week, Shenzhen held an emergency meeting, deploying the schools’prevention and control of A/H1N1 influenza all over the city, of which the comparatively weak links, such as private schools etc., were the priority of the prevention and control.

During the short one week after school term began, Shenzhen Health Department and Education Department had consecutively received report of the outbreak of A/H1N1 influenza cases. The earliest outbreak was on August 31. After the school term began on September 1, those departments could receive reports every day.

Despite weekend, Member of CPC Shenzhen Standing Committee, Li Yizhen, Vice-Mayor, Tang Jie and other officials convened the Municipal Education Bureau, Municipal Health Department and other Deputy District Heads in charge of each district for emergency meeting, discussing and deploying the prevention and control work of school’s A/H1N1 flu. According to the report, from September 1 to September 4, Shenzhen had reported 8 clusters of school outbreak of A/H1N1 flu, totaling 41 victims.

According to the recent report of Shenzhen Flu Monitoring System, the situation of coexisting of three kinds of infection of A/H1N1 flu had appeared in Shenzhen, “which indicated that the epidemic situation in Shenzhen is very serious.”

With upcoming of Teacher’s Day, the areas all over the country will reward the teachers. As scheduled, Shenzhen will also hold award assembly and entertainment show on September 8. However, in consideration of the current H 1N1 flu situation, Li Yizhen advised to cancel all the activities excluding the awarding,
