Shenzhen’s 200 migrant workers free to University

The School Opening Ceremony of the 2nd “Dream Fulfillment Plan” held by Shenzhen Labor Union was yesterday held at the Migrant Worker School of the Municipal General Union. 200 migrant workers who showed their talents from 3000 applicants received the letters of acceptance of University from the leaders of the Municipal General Union and realized their “dream of university” in Shenzhen.

This year, aiming at the adverse effect of the global financial crisis to the stability of many corporations’ labor relationship, the General Union actively exerts the function of the Labor Union University by starting the activity of investing 150 million Yuan within three years for improving the quality of employees and the “Dream Fulfillment Plan” is one of the main content of this activity.

The Plan bases on the school running resources and organization advantages of the Labor Union system and mainly help the migrant workers that have lost their jobs, the poor migrant workers of those corporations that have stopped production due to the impact of the global financial crisis and those employees who are in great poverty.

According to the relevant person of the General Labor Union, comparing to last year, this year’s Plan has been further enlarged. The number the migrant worker who can go to the university without any charge has been increased to 200 persons from 101 last year. The Municipal General Labor Union provides tuition fees subsidies for 150 students and Yantian General Labor Union provide tuition fees subsidies for 50 students.
