Shenzhen’s New Energy Production Value to reach 250b by 2015

By 2015, the total annual production value of Shenzhen’s new energy industry will reach 250 billion Yuan and Shenzhen will cultivate three to five enterprises with annual production value above ten billion Yuan. On September 3, the Executive Meeting of Shenzhen Municipal Government approved in principal the “The Thriving and Development Program for Shenzhen’s New Energy Industry(2009—2015)”and “Several Measures for Promoting the Development of New Energy industry in Shenzhen”for accelerating the development of the new energy industry and taking a lead in building a national new energy industry base and a vanguard city of low carbon economy.

According to the “Program”, the new energy industry will become the pillar industry by 2015. by then, new energy will substitute for traditional energy of over 15 million tons coal and correspondingly, the sulfur dioxide, the nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide will be reduced by over 13000 tons, 28000 tons and 40 million tons respectively. The “Program”put forward that Shenzhen would giver priority to the six new energy industries of solar energy, new energy automobiles, power storage, biomass energy, wind power and nuclear power, rapidly enlarging the industry scale, among which, the annual production value of the new energy automobile industry was expected to surpass 80 billion Yuan, the annual production value of the solar energy was expected to be 40 billion Yuan and power storage industry 26 billion Yuan. For this, Shenzhen would also implement the new energy application expanding project, including solar energy roof planning project, which was to install solar photovoltaic and solar thermal system on the roofs of new buildings and qualified existing buildings, such as public buildings, government’s office buildings, hotels, residential buildings and so on, driving the enlargement of solar energy products application, encouraging the cooperation between solar energy and LED corporations for carrying out the production and integrated application demonstration of the solar-LED lighting products and promoting the use of solar-LED products on Urban roads, municipal parks, plazas, underground garages, traffic facilities and other public areas.

In the supplemental “Several Measures”formulated, Shenzhen put forward that, since this year, Shenzhen would set up special funds for supporting the emerging industry including the new energy industry for consecutive 7 years and the Municipal Finance Department will allocate 500 million Yuan per year for supporting the development of new energy. For the development and industrialized projects of the national and provincial levels in the fields of new energy undertaken by the corporations, high schools and research and development institutions, the special funds undertaken the task of building national project laboratories, key laboratories etc. will be given auxiliary supporting or subsidies of at most 15 million Yuan.
