Shenzhen Beacon Hill Park

Shenzhen Beacon Hill Park

Shenzhen Beacon Hill, adjacent to the Futian Central District, is located in the north of downtown. Covering an area of 146 hectares, it is a hilly land consisting of more than ten peaks. It is named Beacon Hill because three of its main peaks form a tripartite confrontation and shape like a pen-holder. The main peak is at an elevation of 178 meters, which is distantly opposite to Diwang Mansion. From the peak, visitors can not only view the bustling city, but also overlook the beauty of Shenzhen Bay, Shekou and the beautiful scenery of Sheung Shui and Yuen Long in Hong Kong.

The park is located in the north of green belt which is 800 meters in length, and is an important part of the landscape. There are varied terrains, sufficient vegetative cover and different kinds of animals, especially butterflies, birds, insects, snakes, etc.

The overall plan of the park is to build a distinctive western modern garden, and embody the original natural beauty to the maximum. Visitors can have rest, or appreciate the colorful natural landscape, or overlook the Sky Line outside, or enjoy the tranquility far away from the noise. The park is being carried out of the infrastructure now.

At present, Beacon Hill Park has completed lawn more than 60 million ㎡, two artificial lakes, a lawn bowling ground and service facilities for fishing and barbecue. It organizes large-scaled climbing competitions and friendly bowling matches in the Double Ninth Festival each year. It will also hold various activities to enrich people’s leisure life.

Is this Bijia Shan park? I thought the name had something to do with a pen-holder…..not a beacon. Could you please enlighten me a little more on how the English name is derived?

You are right. It can be called as Bijia Shan Park in Chinese. It is called Bacon Hill Park because it was historically the site of a warning beacon.
