Shenzhen Shekou Seas Park

Shekou Seas Park, which was built in 1987 with an amount investment of 30 million RMB, has an area of 135,710.39 m2 in total. Since opened in 1987, it has stepped up new attractions, art sculptures, children’s playground, clubs, arts and Tea House, bookstores and other cultural facilities. Now it has become Shekou native people’s cultural park for recreation.

There are 13 main buildings and attractions, such as “Tongji Garden”, “Fishing Platform”, “Flower-watching pavilion”, “Rain-lamenting pavilion”, “Mid-lake pavilion”, “Wanmu Gallery”, “Grass pavilion”, “Rain-sheltering pavilion”, all of which absolutely are characteristic of Lingnan Garden and reflect the designers’ ingenuity. There are 619 lychees of nearly a hundred years old being nursed carefully, which supply numerous fresh litchi for the market and also provide financial support for the park.

There are two artificial lakes with a total area of 39,600 m2, including East Lake which mainly cultivate lotus and West Lake that mainly manage upstream water park projects. Between the two lakes, there are “Nine Winding Bridge” which imitate pine, “Jade Belt Bridge” being characteristic of Suzhou Gardens, “wooden bridge” which is beautifully designed and “Abalone Bridge” which resembles to the garden in the Beijing Summer Palace. Most of all, the large-scaled arts sculpture “unequalled Gold Cow”, 30 meters in height, is the largest cow sculpture in the world. Being designed by contemporary Artist Meilin Han, it was assigned by the famous dramatist Minglun Wei, and was inscribed by the calligraphist Ying Kang.

The park has 11 regular staff, 4 of whom are contractors of the park, and 19 temporary workers. The park is open for free. It has about 8000 visitors per day, and more than two-million people to take morning exercise and travel in a year. On holidays, the park arranges and holds various public cultural activities, which attract a large number of visitors in or out of Nanshan district.
