Huawei Deployed 25 LTE Networks to Strive for US Orders

Huawei claimed in an interview in Hong Kong, that the number of its LTE test and commercial networks had reached 25, including two commercial networks; and Huawei was confident to reduce the distance from the world’s largest Mobile equipment manufacturer – Ericsson in market share.

According to the synchronous Huawei documents, the company has deployed more than 20 LTE/SAE testbeds cooperating with global operators so far; and among the announced four LTE commercial networks contracts in the worldwide, Huawei makes up half of them.

LTE (Long Term Evolution) and SAE (System Architecture Evolution) are smoothly transiting to 4G. 3GPP R8 advanced the concept of LTE and SAE, which clarify the development orientation of wireless networks evolution and packet core network evolution respectively.

Deploy Over 20 LTE Trial Networks and Win Two LTE Commercial Contracts

Since this year, LTE has gained widespread support from global operators around the world, and has entered into trial network deployment stage. According to the data released by Huawei, it has deployed more than 20 LTE/SAE trial networks, including Europe’s largest LTE/SAE trial network operated by T-Mobile, and has won two LTE commercial network contracts as well as.

In January of this year, the largest telecom operator TeliaSonera in Nordic and Baltic region chose Huawei to deploy its first commercial LTE network in Oslo, capital of Norwegian. Earlier this month, Huawei was favored by Nordic giant Telenor, and got the exclusive supply contract of wireless access in the domestic market of Norway in the next six years.

According to latest available data released by the Global IPR (Intellectual Property Right) Organization ETSI on November 11th, Huawei ranked first among global equipment manufacturers with 168 items LTE patent applications, while those of Ericsson were 98, Nokia 151, Alcatel-Lucent 9. Though equipment manufacturers tried to prove their leading position from different aspects, the industry generally considered that Ericsson still represented the strongest voice of IPR.

Strive for Orders from Verizon, AT & T and Vodafone LTE

Ying Weimin, the president of Huawei LTE product line, said that the company was striving for LTE orders from US Verizon and AT & T; while in Europe, it was contacting with major European operators, including Vodafone.

Ying Weimin said Huawei had got over 30% shares in the tertiary tender of China Mobile 3G network construction, being the largest share among all the manufacturers. He also professed optimism about the future growth of Huawei, and predicted that global commercial LTE would be first introduced in the developed countries such as Scandinavia and North America in the next second or third quarter.

Propose LTE FDD/TDD Convergence Program

At the same time, Huawei had also published LTE FDD/TDD convergence program Mobile in the Barcelona Mobile World Congress in February this year. LTE FDD/TDD convergence program can help operators utilize spectrum resources more efficiently and cut costs.

On November 13rd, Huawei announced that China Mobile had selected Huawei to deploy the world’s first LTE TDD network—the World Expo demo TD-LTE network, which had adopted LTE FDD/TDD convergence program; another operator China Mobile selected was Motorola. In the GSMA Show on Nov 17th, China Mobile and Huawei Technologies jointly displayed TD-LTE/SAE trial network deployed by Huawei in Hong Kong.
