Huawei, ZTE Being Invited for LTE Trials by SingTel
According to foreign media reports, Singapore Telecommunications giant SingTel announced that it planned to launch LTE trials in 4 countries, and 6 equipment suppliers were invited to participate in.

SingTel plans to launch LTE technology regional trial in Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore, including their subsidiaries the second-largest mobile operator Optus in Australia, the largest mobile operator Telkomsel in Indonesia and the second-largest mobile operator Globe Telecom (Globe Telecom) in Philippines.
The experiment will start in the first half of 2010, and is planned to last 6-9 months. It will be carried out under a variety of scenarios and environment, covering different frequency bands and urban environment.
Through the united LTE trial in different regions, SingTel claimed that the company aimed to optimize resource utilization and acquire better technology insights by knowledge sharing.
6 equipment suppliers are invited which contribute to LTE development in the Asia Pacific region
6 equipment suppliers were invited by SingTel to participate in this experiment, namely Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, NEC, Nokia, Siemens and ZTE.
Lim Chuan Poh of SingTel said, “The united LTE test is a cogent model of cooperation among subsidiaries of SingTel to develop products and services for different regions.”
“Since LTE will open a new window for mightier mobile solutions, it will change the life, work and entertainment of our customers in all markets.” He believed that SingTel was in an excellent position to drive LTE.
The trial will accelerate the LTE deployment for new telecommunications, which is of great significance to LTE development in the entire Asia Pacific region. As C114 have learned, SingTel not only had a number of branches in many regions, but also held six shares in overseas mobile operators, mainly in the Asia Pacific region, particularly in Southeast Asia. Up to September 30th, the number of mobile users reached to 273 million, increased by 26%, 57 million more than that of last year.
SingTel’s second-quarter net income reached 952 million Singapore dollars (C114 Note: approximately 686 million U.S. dollars), increased by 19%; its net revenue was 41 billion Singapore dollars (29.5 billion U.S. dollars), up by 5.4%.
