Shenzhen Airport’s second runway to be started before Universiade
To meet the demand of the surging increase of passenger transportation in recent years, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport has conducted large-scale expanding project, of which the second runway of the airport is expected to be put into use in June of 2011, before Shenzhen Universiade. By then, the second runway when completed, with a total length of 3800 meters and width of 60 meters, can be used by the largest airbus in the world at present, Airbus A380.
Locating at the west side of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and east side of Lingdingyang Bay at Zhujiang Estuary, the expansion project occupies a total floor area of 13.23 square kilometers, of which the land formation and foundation treatment projects was invested by the government with first phase investment of about 6 billion Yuan.
The land formation and soft foundation treatment project of the airport expansion was started in December of 2007. As of now, within two years, 85 percent of the total project has been completed and 86.6 percent of the investment (about 3.89 billioan Yuan) has been finished. The land for track traffic and terminal building in the terminal area was delivered in July last year.
To welcome the Universiade to be held in Shenzhen in August of 2011 and cope with the largely increased aviation traffic volume, the second runway, with 62 planning parking stands and 14 remote parking stands, is expected to be put into use in June of 2011. At present, the project process is actively moving forward as scheduled.
