Covering an area of approximately 660,000 square meters, Shenzhen International Garden and Flower Expo Park (hereinafter referred to as Garden Expo Park) is located in West Zhuzilin of Futian District in Shenzhen. It is a municipal park bringing together garden and flower expo, arts and culture, science education, tourism, exhibitions, and solar power grid-connected electricity generation. It officially opened on September 23rd, 2004, which was awarded the title of “National Key Park” by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on September 12th, 2008.

History

Garden Exposition Park, originally belonging to Huangniulong green isolation belt, is the venue for the fifth China International Garden and Flower Exposition co-hosted by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (formerly Ministry of Development) and Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government. With the guidance of practice and science-based development, the concept of “Mutual Glory” and the theme of “Nature, Home, Bright Future”, this exposition displayed garden and flowers, propagated science and technology, and promoted comprehensive, healthy scientific and sustainable development of social. In addition, it abandoned the previous pattern of temporariness, creatively put forward to the concept of creating “Never Exit,” and successfully initiated the new model in combining construction of Municipal Park and Garden Expo together. Since it has gained fine economic, social and environmental benefit, and has accumulated rich experience, it is emulated and borrowed by later large-scale garden and flower exhibitions.

Solar Energy and Popular Science

Garden Exposition Park was installed with 1MWp solar power grid-connected photovoltaic power system, whose capacity is No.1 in domestic. As one of few megawatt power stations in the world, this system was awarded the first batch of Shenzhen Circular Economy Demonstration Projects by Shenzhen Municipal Government in 2007. With Annual generation capacity about one million KWh, the system can save about 384 tons standard coal per year, reduce the SO2 emission about 7.68 tons and the CO2 emissions over 170 tons per year, comparing with thermal. So it is a real unsoiled green renewable energy project, which will become a new highlight of green sustainable energy technologies.
