ZTE Mobile Phone Shipments Exceed Sony-Ericson to Be World’s Fifth

Different from Huawei who insists not to do mobile phone brands, ZTE expects that more and more people know “ZTE” brand mobile phones, internet access cards, and netbook.

ZTE and Shanghai World Expo has reached an agreement to have 100 college student volunteers use the ZTE handsets, ZTE Modem, ZTE netbook to report the World Expo in “three-dimension.” The intention is obvious: launch ZTE end brands.

ZTE’s vice president He Shiyou said in an interview that ZTE’s 3G terminals had already occupied 27% market share in the domestic mobile phone; ZTE mobile phone shipments are expected to exceed those of Sony Ericsson to be the world’s fifth.

For ZTE, as the operators concern more about TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), the proportion of system equipment in share sales will be gradually reduced, while the share of the terminal sales will keep rising.

Gu Yongcheng, the General Manager of ZTE Product Marketing System & Brand Department, said that ZTE’s terminal sales ratio accounted for nearly 25% of the total sales till the third quarter of this year. According to Gu Yongcheng, “This share will continue to increase.”

China Mobile is undoubtedly the closest cooperators of ZTE. In the TD mobile phones, TD home terminal, TD data card field, ZTE will have shipments of 3 million this year. “People can see that we are working with China Mobile for in-depth cooperation in TD mobile phone products, for example, single model U 210 in the China’s market has now reached nearly 300,000 shipments.”

He Shiyou said, “ZTE will primarily concentrate on three regions next year: China, the United States, and European market, which is our long-term development strategies. ZTE mobile phone sales is going to become the global top three in the future, so we must have a sizeable market share in the U.S. and European markets. It’s hard to imagine that a company can not occupy a very important market share in these markets if you were the world’s top three.”
