Huawei Marine and Libya signed agreement for submarine cable

Huawei Marine Network Co., Ltd entered into an agreement with Libya Post Telecommunication and Information Company (“LPTIC”) for the turnkey project of T-E submarine optical fiber cable at the end of 2009 to provide end-to-end submarine optical fiber cable solutions for it.

With maximum design capacity of 3.2 Tbit/s, the project connects the coastal cities of Libya, Tobruk and Emasaed, covering a total distance of 177 kilometers. Expected to be put into operation in 2010, the system after completion not only can improve the backbone network of Libya to provide more protection for routers, but also can improve Libya’s international communication bandwidth, meeting the ever-accelerated external communication demands of Libya.

“The construction of the T-E project has great importance to Libya’s national backbone network and the business expansion of LPTIC.” General Manager of LPTIC, Samier said, “Since Huawei Marine’s technology solution and project ability can meet Libya’s technical demands on the development of the telecommunication industry, then we believe that Huawei Marine can complete this project well.”

Huawei Marine Network Co., Ltd, established in December 2008, is a joint venture founded by Huawei Technology Co., Ltd and Global Marine System Ltd in Britain, focusing on providing the most competitive solutions for submarine optical fiber cable for the global customers. Huawei Marine currently has obtained several marine optical fiber cable projects in the world, including TK projects and expansion projects, and has been gradually recognized by the industry of marine cable with favorable comments.

CEO of Huawei Marine said, “We are honored to be the prime contractor of the T-E marine cable system and we are quite confident to complete the work.”
