ZTE donates GoTa digital trunking system and solar handsets for Haiti
In view of the serious earthquake disaster in Haiti, ZTE immediately established an assessment and relief team, composed by ZTE’s executive vice president and technical experts, to carry out corresponding relief program for Haiti earthquake victims.
After confirming that its 11 employees stationed in Haiti are safe on January 14, the Company contacts their families and keeps them informed of the current status, following which, ZTE today decides to donate GoTa digital trunking system, solar-powered mobile phones and other disaster relief materials to Haiti government and local operators.
Considering the local electricity and power infrastructure have been destroyed in the earthquake, the Company gives priority to provide the solar-powered mobile phones for Haiti. It’s said that the first batch of 1500 GSM solar-powered mobile phones were dispatched to Haiti from Jamaica on January 15.
Furthermore, ZTE has coordinated with Chinese government to ship the 5 sets of GoTa vehicle mobile communication base stations, the 300 GoTa terminals and mobile diesel engines donated to Haiti, which will be opened hours after arriving to improve the coordination ability in Haiti. Previously, ZTE also donated its GoTa equipment for China’s Sichuan May 12, 2008 earthquake, where it played an outstanding role in the relief program.
According to ZTE, its 11 employees stationed in Haiti were out for shopping during the earthquake and thus escaped from the disaster unharmed. These employees will be evacuated to nearby country of Haiti recently. ZTE also said the company will actively participate in the communication relief under the uniform disposition of Chinese embassy, local government, the peacekeeping force and local operators.
