ZTE provides world’s first commercial EV-DO Rev.B network for Indonesia

ZTE announced on 18th that it has successfully constructed and launched the world’s first commercial EV-DO Rev.B network, together with Smart Telecom, a provider of Indonesia’s CDMA telecommunication service, and Qualcomm in Bali, Indonesia. In the first phase, 48 CDMA base stations have been updated to EV-DO Rev.B commercial system to provide average download speed of 8.6Mbps to a peak download speed of 9.3Mbps.

The commercial EV-DO Rev.B network will provide high quality voice and mobile data services for the users of Smart Telecom. Through this innovative solution, ZTE will bring Smart Telecom a leading advantage on Indonesia’s telecom market. ZTE will also launch data card AC2790 of EV-DO Rev.B network on Indonesia’s market.

ZTE side said it will continue to provide innovative and sustainable development technology to reduce the cost of network construction, operation and maintainance and provide high speed communication service of high quality for local users.

ZTE’s SDR platform-based EV-DO Rev.B system can be smoothly evolved to LTE by simply adding LTE baseband board and updating software through which ZTE’s EV-DO Rev.A could be easily evolved to EV-DO Rev.B. In July 2009, ZTE demonstrated the EV-DO Rev.B dual-module system on the EXPO COMM Wireless Japan 2009.

As part of Indonesia’s renowned consortium Sinar Mas, Smart Telecom, one of the leading telecommunication operators on Indonesia’s market, formally adopted the 3.1 Mbps EV-DO Rev.A technology and now the commercial EV-DO Rev. B network with download speed of 9.3 Mbps makes Smart Telecom have the fastest 3G network of Indonesia.

“The commercial EV-DO Rev.B network is available now and could provide services in Bali Denpasar area.” President of Smart Telecom Sutikno Widjaja introduced, “by the first quarter of 2010, all base stations on Bail will be updated to EV-DO Rev.B which will be available to all the main cities of Indonesia. By now, Smart Telecom has made 32 cities covered by EV-DO Rev.A.”

In February 2009, ZTE completed the world’s first EV-DO Rev.B VoIP call on its CDMA2000 system. In June 2009, ZTE joined hands with Morocco CDMA operator WANA and Qualcomm and launched the world’s first EV-DO Rev.B commercial trial network.

ZTE has ranked first on its CDMA network infrastructure shipment rate for consecutive 4 years (2006 to 2009), with globally accumulated CDMA base station shipment rate of up to 215,000.
