Shenzhen Inspects Contaminated Milk Power

Shenzhen Food Safety Committee issued the Emergency Notice on Issuing the Special Regulation Plan for the Safety of Dairy Products and the Food during the Spring Festival in Shenzhen, which reveals that Shenzhen will carry out special regulation activity from February 1 to February 10 to inspect and completely destroy the un-inspected mild products produced before September 14, 2008, eradicating the milk products containing melamine and other toxic materials from coming into the market.

The resurfacing of the melamine-contaminated milk power has caused wide concern of the society and some supermarkets have started the self-inspecting mechanism. The problem products will be immediately put off of the shelves.

When journalists came to one supermarket in Futian district, they found most of the mild products belong to Mengniu, Yili and other famous brands and are mostly produced in the second half year of 2009. Relevant person of the supermarket said, “The four brands announced currently with problems are not sold in our supermarket.” Some markets said that have strengthened communication with suppliers of milk products and will immediately destroy the products that are contaminated.

During the interview, some citizens expressed their worries and anger for the resurfacing of the toxic milk and specially show concern for the quality of children’s milk products.

By February 2, no report regarding the melamine-milk power coming into Shenzhen market has been received, according to Shenzhen Food Safety Office.
