“School Fees for Temporary Studying” to be abolished in Shenzhen
On the base of last year’s suspension from collecting “school fees for temporary studying” for public schools, Shenzhen this year will abolish the “fees for temporary studying” for all students in the compulsory education stage on an all round base, which will benefit nearly 570,000 students and families without Shenzhen residence.
According to the statistics, there are about 829,000 school students at the compulsory education stage during the school year of 2009 to 2010, of which 568,000 are transient students, accounting for 69.7% of the total number.
In Shenzhen, students at compulsory education stage can apply for studying in school with prerequisites that the parents have been consecutively living in Shenzhen for one year and above and the parents should provide five materials including birth certificates, property certificates etc. It’s said that Shenzhen’s public Schools at compulsory education stage have accepted children of migrant workers in Shenzhen of 253000, accounting for half of the total number. 90.7% of the students without Shenzhen residence expect the school could make no exception for migrant students and local students.
Before this, Shenzhen’s public schools at compulsory education stage charged for 700 to 1125 Yuan every semester from the transient students.
