BYD to Set up Car Headquarters in California

BYD CEO Wang Chuanfu said the company would set up sales headquarters in California, USA during the year. If the market is favorable, BYD may consider setting up car factory at local place.

It is reported that BYD plans for the sale of E6 pure electric vehicles in the United States in the second half of 2010. Currently, the company is looking for its headquarters location. “If there is a great market, there may be a plan to set up factory there,” Wang Chuanfu told reporters. He also said,
It expects that the number of cars sold in the U.S. would not be significant for the first batch, which mainly targeted at social leaders and government agencies.

BYD plans to produce 800 thousand cars this year, which is 78% more than 450 thousand cars in 2009. It is expected that 10% of the product will be exported to overseas, which is much more than 2.2% of 2009. In addition, it’s reported that BYD plans to enter the clean energy car market in Western Europe by 2011.
Los Angeles is one of America’s largest and richest auto markets. The electric car is very suitable for Los Angeles which is dense in population and air-populated. On this basis, the sale of E6 will be extend to the northern city, even to San Francisco, and finally to Europe.
