The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which is well-known as the world’s best Polytechnic University, has its first cooperation with a Chinese enterprise – Shenzhen Biocentury Transgene (china) Co., Ltd, which is a high-tech enterprise in Shenzhen. Both of them signed the cooperation agreements on bio-energy technology in Wuzhou Guest House.

It is learned that the cooperation between Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Biocentury Transgene (china) Co., Ltd mainly concerns the application of nano-bio-technology in the solar energy R&D, to develop the next generation cost-effective bio-solar cells. Both sides will work together to apply for a patent to obtain intellectual property rights to fulfill mutual development. Dr. Zhang Shuguang, an internationally renowned expert on biotechnology and deputy director of Bio-Engineering Center in Massachusetts Institute, will be its chief technical experts. And there is a judge of Nobel Prize in Chemistry will join as chief technical adviser.

“Blue algae, green algae and plants during photosynthesis store a large number of chemical energy, which is efficient and non-toxic. A combination between photosynthesis and nano-materials with low-cost and low technical requirements will provide a new power generation method with solar power, to resolve the energy crisis efficiently.” Zhang Shuguang evaluated that Massachusetts Institute of Technology acts as a leader in the fields of cosmos science, nuclear science, bio-engineering research in the world, while Biocentury Transgene (china) Co., Ltd. focuses on plant biotechnology research, therefore, their cooperation can exert their advantages as a complement for each other. The project will also promote the research in many other studies such as nano-electronics, photonics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and so on.

The headquarters will be set up in Shenzhen Biocentury Transgene (china) Co., Ltd., which has the only core technology patents on large-scaled industrialization transgenic crops (Bollgard). It is currently the leading corporation in the field of transgenic bio-technology industry in China.
