Huawei announced on the same year it would take UK as its base to develop the European market and at the same time, the largest telecommunication operator in UK, British Telecom (“BT”) announced it would ally with Huawei to develop projects. Besides projects of 21st Century Network, Broadband Home Gateway and WiFi Phone, BT would also, on a large-scale base, adopt and install the telecommunication and network equipments produced by Huawei, including intelligent network, soft switch, voice gateway and DSL modem etc. CTO of British Telecom Group, Bryan Levie commented, “BT’s cooperation with Huawei is expected to promote the development of the whole telecommunication industry in the United Kingdom.”

Huawei’s action had caused the concerns of international media. The Times pointed out that Huawei’s investment indicated “Chinese corporations have started their expansion in oversea markets and this is just the way that Japan used to have.”

Marked by the development of British market, Huawei, who had known well the strategic thinking of Chairman Mao Zedong, not only intensified the development strategy of “surrounding the cities from the countryside” to consolidate the Asian-pacific, Middle Eastern, North African, South African and Latin American markets, but also extend its hand to the developed countries and regions. On the same year, Huawei ranged No.4 among the global optical network equipments providers.

In the following four years, Huawei, learning and absorbing the experience of the international same trade, creatively worked out strategic policies that suitable for its own development and highlighted its independent innovation ability in the key links of product research and development and customer service etc., gradually shrinking the gas between advanced industries of the same trade. In the end of 2008, the financial tsunami started from Wall Street caused great impacts to the oversea telecommunication equipment providers, but also provide rare opportunity for the internationalized Huawei. The sale revenues that developed countries and regions provided for Huawei had realized substantial breakthrough. The latest ranking of internationally professional organization shows Huawei currently ranks world No. 1 in several fields and No.2 in comprehensive world ranking.
