Xin’an Ancient City, located in the north of Nantou Overpass, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, covers an area of nearly 70,000 m2. Also called Nantou Ancient City, it is the largest tourist attraction of historical relics in Shenzhen. According to historical documents, Xin’an town, set up in Wanli 1st of Ming Dynasty, is the communications center and strategic post of coastal defense. Since Jin Dynasty, Hong Kong, Macao, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Dongguan had been under the jurisdiction of Nantou Ancient City for a long time. But in 1840 the Opium War broke out, Hong Kong had been sliced away from Nantou, while the people of Nantou played an important role in resisting the British Military aggression.

As the remains of Lingnan ancient culture, the quaint spectacular Xin’an Ancient City experiences and records the historical change of Shenzhen area. Nowadays the first phase to refurbish the ancient city had completed, while the arch, the south gate, the County Government Office, Xin’An Prison, Coastal Defense Office, Dongguan Guild Hall, Guandi Temple, Wen Tianxiang Memorial Temple, the Hop Joint, Juxiu Pavilion, Yili Pawnshop and Taomigong Qianzhuang are planned to repair.
