ZTE makes efforts on mobile internet for environmental value chain

ZTE Communication held ZTE Global Partner Alliance Meeting yesterday at Beijing International Convention Center and set up “Mobile Internet Partner Alliance”. ZTE signed letters of intent with several partners including Sohu, Phoenixnet, IBM and HP etc. to jointly develop in the mobile internet and other emerging market.

Over 200 alliance members

“The alliance is first designed within 200 members. It’s unexpected that over 200 members have participated in the first alliance meeting. ” Vice Chairman of ZTE Communication, Wang Xiang described this alliance.

Currently, the mobile internet has become one of the markets possessing greatest potential. According to the statistics, as of the end of September last year, China’s mobile internet users have reached 192 million, a growth of 62.7% over 2008. Some experts even anticipate that the mobile internet users will exceed that of the internet within three years. The popularity of the mobile internet has attracted concerns of many manufacturers. Therefore, it’s well-reasoned that the foundation of the partner alliance of ZTE has caused great attention of the world.

Creating a industrial environmental value chain

The members joining in this alliance not only include basic equipment providers, such as IBM and HP, but also involve some content providers, such as Sohu and Phoenixnet, as well as software application developers.

“The world has gradually entered into the 3G age that focus on contents and applications. Therefore, the business development will be more difficult and complicated and the traditional business development mode is not adaptable to the market development need. ” said Wang Xiang, Vice President of ZTE Communications. Meanwhile, tremendous changes are taking place in the field of value-added service that is merging with surrounding industries and becoming an integration of telecommunication, internet, media and entertainment. Therefore, the mobile internet industry will not be one-man show of the telecommunication industry and the 3G service industrial chain will not be singly the integration of operaters and CP/SP. More competitors will enter into this industrial chain, such as internet operators, software and hardware providers, terminal manufacturers etc.

Self-owned software stores will be promoted this year

The soft product line of ZTE Communication will put 30% of the research and development on mobile internet and the internet of things as well as other creative businesses, according to relevant information.

According to the introduction of Wang Xiang, on the software store, ZTE Communication’s relevant services are divided into two parts. One is to create operating platform for operators, the other is to set up self-owned application software stores of ZTE, serving for its own terminals.

In recent years, ZTE’s mobile internet and relevant service have developed fast. The soft product line of ZTE Communication now can provide over 100 service application products with over 5000 employees. As of the end of 2009, ZTE has become the largest provider for the value added services of China Telecommunication and China Unicom.
