Life New in Shenzhen China

After moving to Shenzhen China only a few weeks ago I find myself immersed in the Chinese way of life and learning about their culture, I find the customs and traditions fascinating as I do the people I was reminded of the Chinese 5000 years of history just the other day, coming from a country with a mere 250 to 800 depending on your point of view. I have begun to understand just a little, Living in a new Country brings with it the usual consequences of missing your home, family, and friends but the advent of Skype and MSN have made this much easier. On the up side I have met some wonderful people who have gone out of their way to make me feel at home, being invited over for dinner on numerous occasions for a wonderful  home cooked meal has been some of my fondest memories to date,

Getting around has been a test after owning a car and being able to go when and where I please to using the city’s transportation network, I find the underground rail system(Shenzhen Metro) to be first class easy to use and the best part is the rail and busses are all fully air conditioned the busses however are a little more confusing but equally efficient.

Buying cloths has also been somewhat of a challenge, not only from a language prospective but having to bargain in the markets. The most difficult thing however is when you are 187cm tall and not exactly trim finding cloths that fit, I did however recently came across a market called Mother earth trading co on Huaqiang lu rd that had some larger sizes so at least I can cloth myself for the foreseeable future.

On the employment front I have spent my time applying for everything even remotely suitable knowing very well that my lack of Chinse language skills are my biggest drawback, but I am confident and I did not come to china with unrealistic expectations, I hope to learn enough Chinese to enable me to gain employment in the very near future
