13 suspected of Clenbuterol Poisoning in Shenzhen

Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention received a report about 13 persons suspected of food poisoning early this month. Through sample testing on site, the result comes out that it’s the snake mean containing clenbuterol resulting in the poisoning.

On September 1 and September 2, Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention received a report from relevant hospital saying that it has got 13 patients who were suspected of food poisoning with the symptoms of flushed face, headache, sense of suppression on the chest, palpitation, hands and feet shaking, etc.

The site investigation by the personnel of the disease control and prevention centers of Futian and Nanshan found the 13 patients all had snake meat at some restaurant locating at Futian district. Through chemical examination and analysis of the sample collected on the site, the snake meat was found containing illegal drugs clenbuterol.

Through the hospital’s symptomatic treatment, the 13 persons have all recovered and were discharged from the hospital.

According to the introduction, the clenbuterol is white or whitish crystal powder, odorless and tasteless with stable chemical quality.

The breeders were suspected of using feed additives containing the clenbuterol, said with relevant person. The government in China has well documented that the using of clenbuterol in the feed additives of animals are strictly forbidden.
