Microsoft’s South China Headquarter to be Set up in Shenzhen

Microsoft’s Asia-pacific Research and Development Group will set up its South China Headquarter in Shenzhen in the end of September.

It’s said establishing a new South China Headquarter is part of the Memorandum of Understanding that is to be signed between Microsoft Asia-pacific Research and Development Group and Shenzhen Municipal Government.

Microsoft released, this is the cooperation on industrial research and development, invited by Xu Qin, Mayor of Shenzhen and former Chief of the Development and Reform Commission, during the time of the 30th anniversary of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. The two parties now have gone through preliminary communication and agreement and “suitable time” will be chosen to sign formal contract.

Before this, the first phase project of Microsoft Shanghai (China) Science and Technology Park, locating in the southeast of Mindong District in Shanghai with total investment of 700 million Yuan has been completed and started for use.

“The overall arrangement of Microsoft’s research and development in China will focus on cloud computing, green IT and other creative opportunities that will deeply affect the future and will cooperate with the global technical support centers and the research and development centers of Microsoft outside the United States,” said with Doc. Zhang Yaqin, Microsoft’s global senior vice-President and Chairman of Asia-pacific Research and Development Group.

After Microsoft China R&D Group headquartered in Beijing changed its name into Microsoft Asia-pacific R&D Group at the beginning of 2010, Microsoft has gradually increased its investment on the research and development in China and prepared to invest 1 billion US dollars in China, which will be mainly used on human resource and hardware supporting facilities.
