Going Home by train for the Spring Festival

The Spring Festival, or lunar New Year, is China’s most important traditional festival, and it will fall on Feb. 2 this year. As one among the employees working outside our native places are busy traveling for going home to enjoy the family reunion.

However, many of us are still worried about homebound tickets. The majority of us depend on the train for our long-distance journeys, but it is so difficult for us to buy a train ticket that we have to be lining up in the railway station for hours, or trust someone who has contact or any kind of relationship with railway authorities.

The passenger flow during the Spring Festival period is usually imbalanced. Before the Spring Festival, passengers usually gather in Shenzhen and move northward, or basically from urban to rural areas. The passenger flow will be on adverse directions after the Spring Festival.

“Have you got your ticket?” The question is asked frequently in recent days when friends or colleagues meet. During the Spring Festival period every year, “ticket” is always something causing headache.

Scalpers were usually rampant during the Spring Festival traffic peak. Passengers usually would have to pay additional charges for homebound tickets. Even worse, what they receive are often fake tickets, despite police’s enforced crackdown on this kind of illegal activities during the festival season.According to the experience of my own and my colleagues in the latest years, in order to go home, sometimes I have to buy tickets from the scalpers, sometimes have to buy bus ticket which is less safe and the price usually 3 times higher than the train ticket. Since in recent years a specialty phone number is for the train ticket ordering, we have to get up early and phoned continuously, if fortunately yours can be connected and order one ticket.

But most people cannot order their train ticket, mainly due to: 1, many tickets are booked by scalpers; 2, employees in the railway station sell tickets to gain profits, and most people get ticket by special relationship, only the poor, has no authority has to book the ticket by phone. It is said that, some scalpers can earn RMB 100,000, some train ticketing agent can earn 800,000 to millions yuan annually.

All my colleagues and relatives feel upset and anxious about this, but have no other ways. Except that you do not go home in the Spring Festival. We keep wondering when can the journey going home becomes easy and comfortable?
