Huawei, Idea Launched first MNP Solution

Huawei, a global leading provider of telecom solutions, announced on Wednesday that it, together with Idea Cellular, a mobile operator in India, had successfully deployed the first commercial MNP (mobile number portability) solution in India where Huawei migrated 470 sets of equipment, comprising up to 60,000 links, for Idea without any service interruption.

By deploying Huawei’s STP-based (signaling transfer point) MNP solution that optimizes the signaling network and supports network transformation, Idea is now able to provide number portability service to more than 63 million subscribers in 22 telecom circles.

“We are very proud to be the first operator for completing all LRN (local routing number)-based migration activities in India, which will allow our users to enjoy number portability service in India,” said Idea CTO Anil K. Tandon.

Huawei’s India Vice-President A. Sethuraman said in a statement, “the STP-based MNP solution can enable operators to simplify their signaling and routing by using a flexible configuration of the signaling message processing. It can also project the operators’ investment”.

As of now, Huawei’s STP-based products have been extensively applied by 114 operators in over 60 counties, serving for over 132 million users worldwide.
