Shenzhen Forbade Electric Bicycles in Urban Area
Shenzhen implemented the policy of forbidding electric bicycles to drive on roads in major urban areas on June 6.
According to the Notice about forbidding the driving of electric bicycles and other non-vehicles installed with motor devices on the roads in part of urban areas issued on May 26, from June 6 to December 5, Shenzhen’s electric bicycles are forbidden to drive in Futian, Luohu, Yantian, Nanshan, Bao’an and other major districts.
The traffic authoriy said, the riders who violate the rules would be fined 200 Yuan after July 1 and their bicycles would be forfeited if refusing to pay the fines.
Relevant person of Shenzhen Traffic Authority said the main reason that the electric bicycles were forbidden in Shenzhen was that they seriously affected the traffic safety and efficiency. Statistics showed there were 268 traffic accidents involving electric bicycles in 2010, which had caused 64 people dead.
Some analyst thought electric bicycles were the main transportation tools used by express companies in terminal delivery and the limitation will greatly increase the operation costs of some express companies and part of the self-established electronic businesses. Currently, Shenzhen has electric bicycle population of over 500000.
