ZTE and Philippine join hands for LTE bearer network

Shenzhen-based telecommunication equipment maker ZTE Corporation (hereafter shorted as the “Company”) announced on August 8 that the Company has won the contract of the Ethernet transport network CEN (Carrier Ethernet Network) project of Smart Communications, the largest mobile carrier in Philippines.

ZTE will provide a reliable and powerful bearer network that could be stably developed for Smart Communications, whose CEN bearer network covers the entire Philippines.

Smart is 100% owned by PLDT (Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company), the largest carrier in Philippines, of which Japan’s NTTCom hold 21% shares. Smart operates mobile services and has nearly 50 million users of 2G/3G network. With the plan to build a LTE network that covers 95% population of Philippines within three years, PLDT now is exerting great efforts to develop the LTE bearer network. Smart plans to conduct the IP reconstruction from the core level to meet the bearing requirements of different networks of 2G/3G/LTE, so as to reduce the network’s construction and maintenance cost and realize the smooth evolution of the bearer network.

ZTE’s new generation IP transport product ZXCTN 9008/9004 has been extensively used in several countries in Asia-Pacific regions. The project this time will further raise ZTE’s market occupancy in this area and at the same time enhance ZTE’s IPTN competitiveness. With advanced products and solutions, ZTE’s bearer network has been used by 558 operators in 126 countries as of the end of 2010.
