BYD’s Headquarter in North America Completed

BYD, a Shenzhen based car manufacturer focusing on producing clean energy vehicles, held an inauguration ceremony for its newly completed Headquarter in Los Angeles on the morning of October 24. Although completed nearly one year later than the expected schedule and the sale of electrical vehicles has not been started, the Headquarter is still the first one that is built by Chinese car manufacturer in North America, which marks a significant meaning.

BYD said last April it would build its Headquarter in North America within the year and at the same time started the sale of electric vehicles. However, due to the shortage of public supporting facilities for charging the vehicles, BYD postponed the retail plan of the electric vehicles.

BYD’s president Wang Chuanfu said on a news conference that, in the future 18 months, BYD would focus on the sale business of electric vehicles, including public buses, governmental and commercial motorcades, and car renting. Meanwhile, BYD’s North America Headquarter will also focus on the market expansion, selling, technical support, training and after-sale service of solar energy and LED businesses.

Mayor of Los Angeles Villaraigosa addressed on the inauguration. He said, “I hope more Chinese companies could make investment in the United State and settle down in Los Angeles.”

According to the report of last April, the municipal government of Los Angeles provided 2 million award funds for BYD to build the Headquarter as well as a series of favorable tax policies.
