“Take active measures to lead the citizens to choose transportation modes of walking and riding bicycle for short-distance trips and “bus plus walking” or “bus plus bicycle” for middle and long-distance trips”, a news conference held by Shenzhen Municipal Communication Committee was told on October 9.

Shenzhen proposes to build a walking and bicycle traffic network by improving the walking pathways within 500 meters of the metro stations and reconstructing the bicycle ways within 3 kilometers of the metro stations. Detailed reconstruction measures have not been told.

According to the Shenzhen Urban Traffic White Book issued on October 9, the construction of slow-moving traffic should be effectively promoted through establishing continuously unobstructed walking and bicycle pathway network, enhancing the connection between walking and bicycle pathways and regular buses and other public transportation modes, and reasonably separating walking, bicycle and motor vehicles to guarantee the safety of walking and bicycle traffic.

The White Book also proposes that motor vehicle separated walking streets and walking areas might be built in some qualified business quarters, residence areas and schools.
