Lion Club Amblyopia Rehabilitation Center to be built in Shenzhen

On an activity for World Sight Day held in Shenzhen yesterday, the Lion Club International announced its cooperation with the Ministry of Health and China Disabled People’s Federation and started the third phase plan of the“Sight is No.1-Action in China”. Lion Club International Fundation will donate 2.67 million U.S. dollars for this activity and Shenzhen will have an opportunity to obtain part of the donation for building the Lion Club Amblyopia Rehabilitation Center. Vice Chairman of China Disabled People’s Federation Wang Naikun took part in the signing ceremony.

Started in 1999, the “Sight is No.1- Action in China”has obtained over 30 million dollars donations from Lion Club International Foundation and 200 million yuan financial allocation from Chinese government, which have been used for quality improvement of eye health care facilities of 300 backward county hospitals. The first and second phase plans were mainly focused on the issues of cataract leading to blind. As of now, over 5.2 million patients suffering from cataract have been granted operation opportunities.

Lion Club International is the largest service organization in the world and also the first and exclusive international volunteer service organization that has been recognized by Chinese government. It has over 45000 branches and over 1.3 million members in the world. Since the two experimental units were established in Shenzhen and Guagndong in 2002, the Lion Club International till now has had 372 branches and over 11000 members in China.
