Sea tunnel between Shenzhen and Nansha mulled

With the aim of becoming a geometric center among the urban clusters in the Pearl River Delta region, Nansha plans to increase the investment for the infrastructure construction, according to Chen Mingde, Deputy Mayor of Guangzhou and Secretary of Nansha District. It’s said an underground sea tunnel is considered to be built to connect Guangzhou and Nanshan.

Although a new round development has started, some experts thought Nansha is still weak on the aspects of infrastructure, education and medical supporting facilities, and basic commercial facilities. Some civil servants in Nansha preferred to live in the main urban areas.

Nansha is located at the west bank of the Pearl River outlet, the geometric center of the Pearl River Delta regions. Although given geographical advantages, Nansha could not be loved by others due to its unitary transportation infrastructure. Nansha is only about 80 km away from the main urban area, but they are only connected by one poor metro line and one highway.

Therefore, Chen Mingde stressed the development of Nansha in future will focus on infrastructure construction and the investment will be increased for raising the construction level on an all round basis. An underground sea tunnel now is planned from Longxue Island to Shenzhen Airport. After the tunnel is completed, it will take only 20 minutes from Nansha to Shenzhen.
