Shenzhen singed the 10th ally in global shipping network

Shenzhen Port got the 10th ally in its overall arrangement of global shipping network. An agreement signing ceremony was held between Shenzhen Port and Taranto Port in Italy for the establishment of friendly port relationship at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center yesterday. Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen Zhang Wen took part in ceremony and addressed.

Zhang said in his address, as one of the first established economic zones, Shenzhen, with its energetic economic system, favorable economic policies and the advantage of adjoining Hong Kong, has quickly developed as the important high-tech city in China, modern logistics hub city, regional financial city and cultural and tourism city. Of all of these, the modern logistics centered on port has become one of the four large pillar industries of Shenzhen. Shenzhen, which has ranked the fourth among the international ports for global container transportation for consecutive eight years, has opened over 200 international container liner lines to different countries in the world. The container throughput in 2010 reached 22,510,000 standard boxes.

Taranto Port is the second large port and important agriculture products distribution center in Italy with annual cargo throughput of about 50 million tons, which is quite important to European and even the world’s shipping industry. As the important ports in respective cities, Shenzhen Port and Taranto Port possess long term and good cooperation relationship and many experience and techniques could be learned by each other and mutually supplemented. The establishment of the friendly port relationship will extremely promote the close cooperation between the two ports and make the development step to a new stage.

It’s said Taranto port is the tenth friendly port of Shenzhen following Rotterdam Port in Holand, Hamburger Port in Germany, Auckland Port in the U.S., Buenos Aires Port in Argentina and others.
