ZTE Ranked No.1 of Global Patent Application
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) announced the application condition of global PCT patent application on March 5th that ZTE Corporation, a Shenzhen-based company, ranked the first with its 2826 patent applications last year, exceeding the Japanese company Panasonic Corporation. Huawei, with 1831 patent applications, ranked No.3. Both of the two Chinese communication companies have quickly become dazzling stars, attracting the attention of the global presses.
According to relevant statistics, China’s PCT patent application volume in 2011 reached 16406 items, ranking globally No.4 and closely following the United State, Japan, and Germany. The increased patent applications of the United States, Japan and China have account for 82% of the global increased ones in 2011.
The top five corporations are ZTE Corporation, Panasonic, Huawei, Sharp Corporation and Bosch of Germany, according to the statistics of WIPO.
With small growth in economy last year, the global PCT intellectual property application volume still made a new record in the history, up to 181,900 items, with a growth rate of 10.7%.
“Although the universal uncertainties have impacted the global economy, the invention and innovation activities of the global companies are not interrupted. The global innovation activities now are transferring from the North America and Europe to Asia and the patent applications from Asia has accounted for 39% of the total volume in the world. ” said relevant person from WIPO.
