Shenzhen to Cancel Profiting from Drugs in July
(Shenzhen)-Shenzhen Municipal Government held a press conference about Shenzhen commercial registration system reform and the reform of medical care and drugs separation on May 7th, announcing that several reforms will be conducted for public hospitals on seven aspects, including canceling public hospital’s right to profit from drugs and improving public hospital’s compensation system. From July, the profits from drugs, one of the important revenue sources of public hospitals, will be canceled. It will save the medicine expenditure of Shenzhen residents of about 209 million Yuan, which will be paid by the consolidated fund of social medical insurance.
Le Zheng, Vice Secretary of the city’s Party Committee and Director of Reform Office said on the press conference that Shenzhen’s medical reform in 2012 will focus on seven aspects, including canceling public hospital’s profiting from drugs, improving public hospital’s compensation system, promoting medical service paying system, establishing competition system between drug circulation enterprises and hospital pharmacies and drug procurement system, investigating and publishing the illegal behaviors in drug purchasing and selling field and establishing public hospital supervision system.
Le Zheng said, after canceling the profits from drugs, the government will increase the expense standard of medical service and establish compensation system for public hospitals to realize balance between income and expenditure, which means the consolidated funds of the Social Medical Insurance will pay for the expense.
