Toxic gas leak again in Shenzhen

Shenzhen,China- Toxic gas leak occurred on another chemical loading container on the cargo ship that had gas leakage earlier at about 8 o’clock on August 5, 2012, according to Shenzhen fire prevention authority.

A fireman joining in the rescue work said it was the same cargo ship that had gas leak accident on August 3 and the interval is less than 30 hours.

The cargo ship with carrying capacity of 800,000 tons is registered in Panama. It stopped at Yantian Port for supplies and temporary rest and will end in Singapore. The cargo ship has two containers on board loading with cyanamide that is owned by a trading company in Hunshan Jiangsu Province. One of the containers had a gas leakage accident on August 3 and then was transferred to the Port’s disposal area for high-risk products for further treatment.

The accident has been cleared up and the firemen have transferred the site to relevant department of Yantian Port for follow-up treatment. The accident has not caused any casualty and environmental pollution.

Relevant maritime sector now is conducting overall investigation over the articles shipped by the cargo ship as well as the follow-up clearing work. Meanwhile, the environment protection department has conducted dynamic monitoring over the air and water around the site and no abnormal condition is found.
