Shenzhen to clean out Yellow Label Cars
“Shenzhen will never follow the old routine of polluting first and controlling later”, said Mayor of Shenzhen, Xu Qin, on an environmental situation analyzing meeting held yesterday.
The meeting was also told that a series of measures will be taken to improve the air quality in Shenzhen, including fully cleaning out the yellow label cars, the vehicles that fail to meet the European No.1 standard for exhaust emissions, improving the standards of vehicles and fuel, controlling the oil and gas pollution at gas station, upgrading the generator sets at power plants, cleaning out the industrial high pollution boilers, and controlling the volatile organic contaminant and so on.
It will take five to ten years for Shenzhen to reach the air quality standard of international city. Xu Qin made a keynote speech on the meeting and analyzed Shenzhen’s environmental situation from ten aspects including the atmospheric environment, river environment, the source of drinking water, maritime environment and so on. He also put forward policy consideration for river treatment, air pollution treatment, eastern environment and green development.
“Environment is the productive and competitive power and also the basic support of the sustainable development,” said Xu. He regarded this environmental situation analysis meeting as “a vivid environmental education lesson”.
In recent years, Shenzhen has strengthened the efforts to make comprehensive treatment for environment. During the “eleventh five-year” period, Shenzhen implemented over 400 environmental treatment projects with total investment of over 2.8 million Yuan. Shenzhen, in next step, will strengthen the control over various water pollutions and promote the construction of sewage treatment plant and relevant pipeline network, accelerating the pace of energy saving and emission reduction.
