Shenzhen Bay Port Found Out a Chikungunya Fever Case
On October 11, Shenzhen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau found out a Chikungunya fever case among inbound passengers via Shenzhen bay port, which was the first chikungunya fever case found in all ports of Shenzhen this year.
That infected passenger travelled to Shenzhen with a tour group from Indonesia. When he entered the port of entry, he had a high temperature of 39.5 DEG C and tonsil enlargement of I degree. According to on-site investigation and subsequent laboratory testing done by Shenzhen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, it turned out that passenger was infected by chikungunya fever. At present, the local Bureau has take prevention and control measures towards that passenger and related entourages. The local Bureau also reported related information to Shenzhen city disease prevention and control center and Hongkong&Macao health and quarantine agencies in order to do joint prevention and control work.
Chikungunya fever is an illness spread by the bite of virus-carrying Aedes mosquitoes, with symptoms similar to dengue fever, with an acute febrile phase of the illness lasting only two to five days, followed by a prolonged arthralgic disease that affects the joints of the extremities. Although the mortality rate is low, but it may spark a large-scale outbreak and massive prevalence in high-density mosquito area.
